Forgotten Places
There used to be an amusement pier in Venice Beach in the early 20th century. The Venice Beach Pier became Pacific Ocean Park later on. POP as it was known, was just down the path from the Santa Monica Pier.
The picture in the banner was an awesome themed early coaster called Dragon Gorge Scenic Railroad way back in 1912! A lot of detail for that time huh?
There had been a pier there for some time, but in the 1950's it got a huge makeover and rebranding. It was supposed to compete with Disneyland but was never as popular. It partially burned down and the ruins became a living nightmare in the bay for almost 10 years. I'll be posting more about POP soon!
