How Your Pet Helps You
Blog Challenge Day 2 for Crystal.
So everyone thinks their pet is the cutest or kindest or fluffiest, but my cat Poof really is! We found him as a kitten almost 6 years ago now outside of our house in the pouring rain meowing.
As he was wild, it took some coaxing, but before you know it, he was eating out of our hands and came inside to sheepishly hide under our bed. We got him a soft blanket, several feather toys and soon realized we were falling in love with this little creature!
Previously, we had both been allergic to cats, but this specific breed a Neblung is hypoallergenic so we both took to snuggles and kisses without issue! He made our home his home. And even settled into Mike’s new office chair and cushion as if it was his own.
We had some tough times in 2012 and Poof literally saved us with his calming presence, unbiased love, soft purrs, slow blinks and comforting snuggles. He has a knack of knowing when we’re in pain, stressed out or uncomfortable and joins us on the couch to aide in a way that only he can. He seems to know I have a broken wrist right now and is by my side non-stop this week. Which has been so helpful thru the pain! My little buddy!
He greets me when I come home everyday with a cat-like “herrrro” and gets so excited for his morning feedings and afternoon outdoor viewings (by which he refers to as “ouuuut!”)
We have catified our entire house for him (as per Jackson Galaxy’s show “My Cat From Hell”) with shelving for him to gain altitude and a higher perspective on his domain, we’ve got him cat trees and scratching posts, and we even attached a shelf to the front door so that in the middle of the night or whenever he can look out and be our ultimate guard cat. He actually warns us with growls if someone is coming up the drive and runs around in circles when he sees a wild outdoor cat or skunk. But he just loves looking out!
We have decided he’s going to be an indoor only cat, but he has gotten away twice before on “an adventure” for the night. We were so incredibly worried and heartbroken, but luckily the next morning he came back scratching and desperately meowing at the door. So we installed the screen door for him and now we can give him plenty of window access to stare at birds and sun himself! (And oh how he enjoys that!)
How do I express the love that I feel for this little sweetheart? He lifts me up when I am low, he keeps me warm when I’m cold, his soft coo’s and purrs comfort and calm me and everyday he reminds me that I’m his guardian who loves him unconditionally and that love is completely reciprocated.
I love you Poof.
That is how my pet helps me!
