Welcome to the beautiful Huntington Library, Art Collection and Botanical Gardens, nestled in the gorgeous city of San Marino! Founded in 1919 by Henry E. Huntington, these 207 acres are booming with thousands of varieties of flowers, plants, vines, succulents, and trees, an indescribable art collection including impressive statues, illuminated manuscripts, paintings, and contemporary and installation art, and of course, several libraries highlighting British and American history, literature, art and science.

This vast landscape has such diverse regions that convey a totally different feel as guests walk from area to area. My particular favorites are the Chinese Garden, Botanical Greenhouse, and the Rose Garden.

We haven’t been here for a while, even though it’s practically in our own backyard, as we have been Los Angeles Arboretum members for a couple of years now. But what we love about the gardens is the peaceful tranquility, the natural outdoor setting, and the opportunity to excersize and capture photos and videos. (And that we did!) Enjoy!

The great part about The Huntington is all of the indoor spaces that are air-conditioned, often have seating and are full of incredible art, literature and sights to behold. We stumbled across a book called The Crystal Sun and reading it uncovered the author, Robert Temple‘s first encounter with an ancient Mayan crystal skull which must have taken years to create with ancient tools and methods.

And if you come hungry, there are plenty of great locations to grab a bite to eat, a beverage to drink or a snack to munch on. We enjoyed coffee at the Red Car Coffee Shop, smelled and drooled over the Freshwater Dumpling and Noodle House, and then enjoyed lunch at the Patio Grill. The menu options were absolutely delightful!
