What Makes You Proud of Yourself?
I’ve been thinking about this topic a lot today (since I’m not back at work yet) and there are many things that make me proud each day. But I think the thing that I try to do everyday (although not lately) that really makes me proud, is the miles that I walk! It started as simple exercise and stress relief during our lunch hour at work and has turned into a good habit and now a lifestyle that I wouldn’t trade for the world!
Getting time in to change, elevate our heart rates, catch some rays and fresh air, chit-chat worry free with the girls, listen to music, and track our duration, time and miles is absolutely priceless. We usually always achieve a 5K (which is 3.2 miles) in about 50-55 minutes. Besides missing my coworkers, I also miss my exercise routine with the girls more than anything! It gives me a new found energy and a relief of anxiety and tension. I feel like a million bucks after a quick jaunt with my Dawsonette’s!
I even participated in an official 5K with Mike at the Santa Anita racetrack a few years ago and accomplishing something like that in a huge group gave us such an awesome adrenaline rush! The positivity, enthusiasm and pride we felt was infectious throughout the participants in Arcadia that day. I strive to participate in another one soon!
Lately, even with a broken wrist I have changed single-handedly, and made it out there with the group 3 or 4 times, even successfully bagging up the soft cast and showering all by myself at work. Sadly, I have not been out in an entire week now since surgery.
My recovery and rest is very important, but at the same time I’m ready to go out there again, even if it’s in my own neighborhood to put one foot in front of the other and go out there for a couple of miles. It’s so important to my mind, body and soul! (No scootering by the way - just my own two feet!)
Perhaps tomorrow I can gather the energy and motivation to put my sneakers on again and actually hit the road, because nothing would make me more proud!
Thanks for reading and happy walking,
