Inside Sales Day at K-1 Speed

Inside Sales Day at K-1 Speed

On Friday, November 3rd we planned for our Inside Sales Day at K-1 Speed in Ontario, CA. Our awesome Outside Sales Team stepped in to watch the phones and enter orders while we were away so this could all happen during work hours. So at 10:30a.m. we relinquished our work stations and drove over to race go-karts at K-1 Speed, an indoor racetrack.

After signing in, getting trained on how to operate the speedy go-karts and what all of the flags meant, we all suited up with head socks and put on our racing helmets. We would be able to participate in 3 races; a practice round, a Qualifyer and the Grand Prix!

Ok, here goes nothing Team!

Thumbs up!

During the Practice Round we casually waved at David, our photographer for the day (since his back hurt and he could not participate.)

“Hi David!”

After 12 laps I ended up in last place, (probably because I was hamming it up for the camera and testing out the turns with care.) But getting the feel for the kart was an important part of getting ready to really get my gameface on and put the pedal to the metal!

Our second race, which was the Qualifying Round I really gunned it! Squealing around sharp turns, using the brake occasionally as to not kiss the wall and passing my coworkers with aggressive vigor! It was a thrilling battle full of laughter, close calls and drifting. They even had to stop the race a couple of times after the guys spun out, or collided and broke their go-karts.

After the Qualifier we exited our karts and eagerly anticipated the results. The staff said - “whoa, better look out for her in Round 3!” Then the scores were in! I actually jumped to the #1 spot. This meant I would lead the pack at the Grand Prix!

On the starting line.

The time had come! We were racing for place, not time anymore and I earned my spot to start! Rev your electric engines folks. Game on!

The checkered flag went down and we were off! We were 6 laps in and Joel (in 2nd place) caught up and passed me! It happened so fast! Before you know it he spun out and was facing me on the track and I screamed out loud “aghhhh!!!” We narrowly avoided a head on collision. Before you know it, Michael was passing us both up! They stopped the race, turned Joel around and we began again. This time Michael was in first, I was right behind him and Nick ended up taking third!

The Grand Prix Race was done, results were in and we stepped up on the winners boxes for closing award ceremonies and pictures. Michael, our newest employee took 1st Place, I got 2nd and Nick, my boss got a respectable 3rd place! Good race everybody! So much fun!!! What a great group!

Afterwards, we went to lunch at Lazy Dog Cafe in Ontario. I have to admit - driving from the K-1 Speed location to lunch felt like we were still racing. Whoops!

Lunch at Lazy Dog Café

We all enjoyed some much needed sustenance and hilarious conversation with the group afterwards! We shared our individual racing experiences and latest take on the World Series while enjoying appetizers, drinks, lunch and dessert.

All in all, the day was a great team building experience and I am so thankful for my awesome coworkers and Company!
