Heritage shoot with John Urbino

We have been meaning to make this photoshoot happen for a while now and we finally worked it out and got John in studio on July 26th! We set up at Sena's, my fellow photographer's studio in Glendora complete with hair light, softbox, background light, and a diffused umbrella on a plain canvas background. The three of us took turns working with John, and adjusting the lighting just right to pick up on his muscle definition, hair light and shine on the weaponry. John was wearing a new kilt, created with his family's Scottish plaid fabric in the pleats. This is an homage to his family heritage and ancestors that came before him.

We all had such a great time, laughing, joking and getting some awesome images that I'd like to share with you today. Please enjoy and thank you John for your good sense of humor and incredible posing skills!

Next, we changed backdrops to add an element of warmth and color and I absolutely LOVE how these turned out!!! John's classic prop, the sword made its debut for these shots and figuring out what to do with it on a limited background was tough, but fun. Check it out! :

I can't wait to compete in October with some of these outstanding images! I am involved in the Southern CA Council of Camera Clubs (S4C) where we compete digitally in several different categories for 7 months and John is going to be a hit in Arranged Color and Monochrome for sure!

This is probably one of my favorites, due to the incredibly strong pose, lighting, tone in the shadows of his muscular back and how his arm frames his profile so nicely.

And the tonality in the monochrome image is quite nice with the simple background, really highlighting the subject and of course, his muscles!

Come on John, win me the Gold!

This back shot was done because we wanted to fit in the entire length of the sword with enough lighting that you could see the tonality in the metal and the gorgous crafted handle.

And to me, we've both won already because we had such an amazing time completing this Heritage Shoot, and we've got the pictures to prove it!

Thank you John - you are certainly welcome back again anytime!

Thanks for viewing,
