Pasadena Greek Festival 2017
This year the Greek Festival was held at Saint Anthony's Greek Orthodox Church on Rosemead in Pasadena. Parking (I'm told) has always been tough, so this year they had off-site parking at 618 Michilinda Ave with free continuous shuttles to and from the church's front entrance.
Tickets online prior to Friday sold for $2 each, and admission at the door is only $4.
Countless booths line the walkway and the aroma of delicious food, sweet pastries, and Greek coffee fills the air. Lines move quickly, people are generally courteous and patient and the vendors seem very passionate about what they are serving up!
We settled on Gyros (Beef or lamb pita sandwich with tomato, onion, and tzatziki), Pastichio (Layers of pasta, cheese and ground beef topped with béchamel sauce), and Spanakopita (Spinach and feta pie in flaky filo dough). All delicious!
We ate inside a hall that had plenty of seating, and cute sunflower centerpieces on each table.
After we finished dinner, we went outside as the lights turned on, and we went to enjoy some delicious Greek iced Coffee.
Coffee in hands, we walked over to the jewelry and clothing booths set up to peruse all the goods!
Next, we followed our ears to the sounds of traditional Greek music coming from the Main Stage. Here we found dancers in traditional costumes on deck and even a teenage dance group performing some fancy footwork, flips and lifts!
After trying to see past a crowd of heads, and the tent stakes and rope, we got a better seat sitting on the ground crossed legged in front of the performers instead.
Here we got a great view of all the action! After the entire audience seemed to join the dancing on stage, we retreated to the confines of the church where they allowed photography and conducted free tours.
The interior of this church was incredible with wall to wall murals, stained glass, lit candles, gold leafing, and marble.
All in all, an incredible event, well organized, well placed and extremely fun and delicious. I hope ya'll get a chance to experience it for yourself this year (or next.) One more day - check it out! Opa!!!
